Presentation

A large part of the success of radio and television programmes lies in the voice, as the main support for principal audiovisual messages. Consequently, for certain communication professionals, the voice not only represents the main instrument of expression, but the basic work tool. Its communicative skills conditions not only the attention level of the audience, but the degree of comprehension of the message. In other words: the expression of a person's voice influences how it is understood and those listening.

There are at least three reasons why the study and control of the voice is essential for future communication professionals. Firstly, because knowledge of the technique can prevent the appearance of voice conditions hindering daily work. Secondly, because control of the voice means gaining expression and, therefore, ensuring the messages transmitted via audiovisual media are more accessible and attractive for the audience. And, finally, because this is an area of training traditionally ignored, but essential for working in audiovisual media.

Journalists, audiovisual communicators, broadcasters, show or programme presenters, publicists, Public Relations experts, theatre or voiceover actors, entertainers, etc., are all obliged to control oral communication as a basic work tool to establish an effective relationship with the audience. Today more than ever, integrated training is needed covering all areas inherent in these activities: from voice education, bodily expression and interpretation to the most advanced levels of dramatisation. Thus arose this postgraduate proposal in an attempt to fill the educational void existing in the area, offering integrated education to the audiovisual media broadcaster.
