This program belongs to the Barcelona School of Management, the new business school of Pompeu Fabra University.
The Master of Science in Management is a one-year programme taught in English and aimed at students who wish to gain a deeper knowledge of the analytical aspects of management.
While an MBA focuses on the practical application of management theory, the Master of Science in Management offers an advanced analytical basis according to the specialisation of each student, and allows students to develop a specific research project as their MSc thesis.
Unlike the MBA, this programme focuses on discussion and comprehension as opposed to practice, and on analysing rather than merely describing.
The Master of Science in Management is an academic qualification that does not require previous professional experience, although it is aimed at people with a certain amount of quantitative training.
The Master of Science in Management has a clear professional approach and is well suited to people who wish to move ahead in sectors in which an analytical approach is crucial. The MSc has been specially designed for those who wish to have a career in strategic management and consulting, supply chain management, market research or public sector or commercial management. The Careers Service offers resources and training in skills that complement the academic training.
The Master of Science in Management also guarantees students a good foundation for a career in academia, with the possibility of going on to study on our PhD Programme in Business Management.
The programme consists of four main courses: two deal with analytical tools (Statistics and Management Accounting) and two with management theory (Marketing and Organisational Behaviour). Furthermore, students can choose one of the three branches of specialisation: Strategy, Operations Research and Marketing. Finance is dealt with as part of the main subjects, but can additionally be chosen as an elective subject.
Each student is assigned a tutor who provides them with guidance throughout the MSc. Students carry out a Project during the last trimester. Teaching takes the form of lectures and seminars. Many of the seminars are based on practical cases, and most work is carried out as part of a group.
The MSc is aimed at university graduates of engineering, science or social sciences who have received quantitative training. It is suitable for students with a high level of English who are interested in improving their theoretical and practical business knowledge in an international environment, and for people with a background in economics, humanities or other studies who can demonstrate a basic knowledge of quantitative methods.
