This program belongs to the Barcelona School of Management, the new business school of Pompeu Fabra University.

The Master in Sports Management and Direction has been designed to transmit the basic knowledge to successfully do the work of managers and directors in any institutions, clubs, entities or enterprises related to sports.

The academic strength of the programme is based on the following aspects:

  • Lecturing staff with close connections with the sports sector and recognized academic careers.
  • Presence in the classroom of some of the main characters in the sports management and direction world.
  • Teaching methodology based on the explanation of concepts and analyses of cases.
  • Strong promotion of the development of personal competences.
  • Possibility of carrying out placements with top-level sports enterprises such as American Nike, Aramark, Atles Consulting, Duet Sports, Federació Espanyola de Patinatge, FC Barcelona, Grup Àccura, Holmes Place, Institut Barcelona Esports l'Ajuntament de Barcelona, MediaSportsMarketing and SummaSports. Objectives

  • To train directors and qualified staff with human resource and business skills permitting them to manage sports enterprises and institutions.
  • To provide business management and administration knowledge and to understand the market and its changes with a special focus on the sports sector.
  • To help participants understand the special features of the market, the economy and the legal setting of sports enterprises.
  • To make participants develop the creativity, openness, and flexibility to apply their knowledge and open the path to new opportunities.

Programme

The course contents are structured into two sections by subject-matter, with a previous introductory module. The first includes all the core subjects, which are common to the whole development of activities within the sports sector, while the second is devoted to five specific areas of application.

The programme is completed with a module focused on improving transversal competences. This part of the course is aimed at developing the skills related to professional individual and team work. It likewise introduces the personal experiences of a series of guests who, through seminars and debate sessions, transfer their experience and impressions regarding their professional activity in the sports world.

An important part of the course is the series of guided visits to sports facilities (Complejo Deportivo de Can Ricart sports centre, FC Barcelona and RDC Español football stadiums, Car de Sant Cugat high-performance centre, Circuit de Catalunya motor sport circuit, Centro Internacional de Vela sailing centre, among others).

Finally, the course is completed with the writing of a master's thesis in which all the knowledge acquired throughout the course is put into practice. This activity has methodological support and personalized tutoring performed by programme lecturers and collaborators.

The programme is aimed at university graduates, professionals, sportsmen and women and at any anyone else wishing to direct their professional activity towards the sports sector, as well as other related sectors, such as culture, tourism and/or the entertainment sector.
