IDEC offers students on certain master's and postgraduate programmes the possibility of developing in a practical way the theoretical knowledge they have acquired in the classroom by applying it to real situations in the professional area of their choice. These practicals are for training purposes, and there is to be no working or contractual link between the participant and the entity.
The profile of IDEC programme students on internship is that of recent graduates or university diploma students with no previous professional experience who, via these practicals, are able to gain experience of the professional world within their particular area of specialisation.
In turn, the student agrees to complete the period of internship and under no pretext will give up without first informing IDEC or without the subsequent consent of the organisation in question.
In the same way, during the internship period, students will not be allowed access to IDEC's Career Service but must first complete the period of practicals as indicated by the corresponding collaboration agreement.
Practicals last approximately 2 to 6 calendar months, within the academic year of registration. As a guideline, the period of practicals begins in the month of January and ends before 30th September corresponding to the academic course of the student's registration.
Entities usually offer participants some financial assistance with their studies. Among other things this assistance covers travel and living expenses. Amounts vary according to the level of studies and the time participants dedicate to practicals.
This assistance is taxable according to current regulations and is different for resident and non-resident participants in Spain:
| Period of practicals under 183 calendar days in the same calendar year | Period of practicals over 183 calendar days in the same calendar year | |
|---|---|---|
| Spanish residents | 2% | 2% |
| Non- residents | 24% | 2% (with NIE, student resident card) |
Entities will designate a tutor for participants on work experience. This tutor will determine activities, guide the participant and provide a final performance and evaluation report.
IDEC will be responsible for carrying out a study during the course of the internship with both the entity and the participant, in order to guarantee its suitability. In addition to this, upon completion of the internship and to guarantee the success of the collaboration, both the tutor and the participant will be expected to write an evaluation report provided by IDEC.
The Internship programmes will be formalised via the signing of a collaboration agreement between the participating entity and IDEC, with the approval of the participant on the postgraduate programme.
This agreement will also include the financial assistance which the student will receive from the company, as well as administration fees which must be paid by the company.
During the established period of practicals, the students will be covered for accidents by an insurance policy provided by IDEC and there is to be no formal working or contractual link between the participant and the entity providing the work experience.
"IDEC’s enormous success as a centre of education since it was founded is due, on the whole, to its practical orientation. Internships help participants to apply what they have learned in the classroom to the real world, as well as facilitating contact with young professionals with excellent training."
