Presentation of the Chilean Alumni Chapter
The Alumni Chapter in Chile was founded in 2006 with the aim of contributing to the development and exchange of experiences between former IDEC and UPF students. With the understanding that one thing we all have in common is having completed training at UPF, either on postgraduate or master’s programmes at IDEC or other degree or master’s programmes at UPF, we here at the Alumni Chapter Chile would like to take advantage of this common experience to maintain and extend our contacts with those students who have returned to our country.
This network of former students is enriched by the experience of every former student who joins us and takes an active part in our meetings. So why not get in touch with us and help us to strengthen our Chapter?
How many of us are there?
At present there are a significant number of alumni in Chile who have completed programmes at Pompeu Fabra University as dual qualification courses with UPF at Diego Portales University. Therefore we are talking about a social and professional network with great potential, as it includes all alumni who have completed on-site, online or dual qualification programmes.
During the 2007-08 academic course there were 18 Chileans taking part in on-site programmes at IDEC in Barcelona.
Previous meetings
- On 18th November the Master’s in Finance at the Postgraduate School of Universidad Diego Portales organised the seminar: “Global environment and plans for Chile after the financial crisis”, which saw the participation of UPF MBA lecturer Mr. Ramón Miquel and Mr. Enrique Marshall, ex-superintendent of Banks and Financial Institutions and Advisor to the Banco Central de Chile.
- On 22nd October a breakfast-conference was held to mark the visit of a number of IDEC lecturers to Latin America to attend the diploma awards ceremony for recent graduates in that part of the world. This included the talk, "In defence of the reader", given by Catalan lecturer Josep Maria Casasús, Professor in Journalism at the Communication Faculty of Universidad Pompeu Fabra, co-director of the UDP-UPF Master’s in Publishing and Director of the Master’s in Communication Business Administration at IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra. The event was held in the Casino of the Faculty of Communication and Arts at Universidad Diego Portales (Santiago de Chile).
- The second edition of exchange meetings between former and future IDEC-UPF students was held on Tuesday, 8th September 2009. The aim of this type of meeting is to establish links between recent IDEC graduates and those from the next promotion who are about to leave their countries to study their respective programmes in Barcelona and who would appreciate some guidance as to what their experience in Spain will be like. Alumni who are now residing in Chile were also invited in order to meet the new members of the Chapter.
- To date, we have held meetings to celebrate institutional visits from the Rector of Universidad Pompeu Fabra and the Director General of IDEC, Sr. Pau Verrié, as well as visits from IDEC and UPF lecturers and to higher education fairs, etc. The following are worthy of particular note:
- Pompeu Fabra University’s participation in the World MBA Tour and Meeting of former and present students: September 9th and 10th, Hotel Grand Hyatt Santiago

IDEC relations with universities in Chile
IDEC has several collaboration agreements with universities and institutions worldwide to develop international training projects, such as dual qualification programmes. Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay all have dual qualification programmes or programmes carried out with some of the most prestigious universities in these countries. In Chile, we collaborate mainly with Diego Portales University.
What could be your role in the Local Chilean Association?
It is mainly former students, with the support of IDEC and UPF, who, on returning to their country, contribute to the dynamic activity of each individual country‘s association. Their motivation is to maintain links with IDEC and UPF, to get to know alumni from other years and to promote the value of their qualification within their own community.
If you would like to join us, we invite you to:
- Become a contact for future students at IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra who would like to have an “on-line mentor” for any doubts or queries they may have before arriving in Barcelona.
- Form part of the organisational nucleus of the Local Association for in order to energise alumni meetings on the occasion of visits by university figures.
- Help in the annual preparation of the experience exchange meeting between former and future students.
Who can become a member of the Local Association?
The Local Association in your country aims to bring together the whole UPF community, made up of all those individuals who have developed a strong link with IDEC and UPF and who are interested in maintaining links with these institutions and promoting exchange and experiences. Specifically, this collective includes:
- former IDEC students
- former UPF students
- lecturers on UPF and IDEC programmes, either for UPF qualifications or those offered jointly with national universities
- “friends of UPF”: individuals and companies linked to UPF
