Meeting in Barcelona of representatives of international AA Chapters in Latin America
From 16th to 19th November representatives of some of the international Chapters of the Alumni Association visited Barcelona to hold various meetings with the aim of presenting the activities which each of the Chapters has organised since its creation and to devise lines of strategy for future activities. A total of 6 representatives from Latin American Chapters attended the meetings in Barcelona: Argentina (Daniel Vitali), Chile (Cristian Solís), Ecuador (Fausto Valencia), Mexico (César Sánchez), Peru (Max Carrasco y Milton Vela) and Uruguay (Ana Pereyra). The Alumni Association, present in 10 countries throughout the summer
During the months of August and September the international Alumni Chapters held a new round of exchange meetings between new and old UPF students in different Latin American countries. This was the second edition of the meeting for the majority of countries, although for some it was the first exchange experience of this type. In this way, countries such as Chile, The Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Brazil organised these meetings for the first time and with great success. The meetings were organised jointly by the IDEC Welcome Service and the Alumni Association with the aim of creating a link between students who recently graduated from IDEC and those about to leave their countries to start their respective programmes in Barcelona, as well as providing the network of former students present in the countries visited with an opportunity to discuss and compare experiences.
The aspects which the new students asked about most were life in Barcelona, the cost of living, the use of Catalan, accommodation, job opportunities, internships and work permits. For their part, the former students took advantage of the meetings to consolidate and improve their networking efforts as regards the creation of stable and consolidated Chapters which may serve as a reference point for students who are finishing their time at IDEC and are returning to their countries of origin.

Annual Meeting 2007
Of note among the issues that Jordi Pujol touched on in his speech were the demographic, technological and other changes that have taken place in this country in the last few years and the extent to which these have influenced its recent development. Drawing up a balance of this period, he identified a number of positive aspects in the current situation in Catalonia, including " demographic growth, with the population now exceeding seven million; our significant rate of economic growth, and the achieving of internal balance and social cohesion within the country". With regard to the phenomenon of immigration, one of the most far-reaching social changes of recent times, the former president observed that "Catalonia has show an exemplary capacity for integration, but it is not infinite". The numbers of people coming to live and work in the country since the 1990s have been higher than expected, and in Jordi Pujol's view "this has affected social serveis, and access to housing, education and so on, but so far it has not disrupted social harmony".
The speech was followed by the annual gala dinner, and excellent opportunity as always for reinforcing and extending personal and professional networks, which was attended by around a hundred members.
